The area of activity of the Center includes teaching mathematics in various fields of bachelor and masters level studies at GUT, conducted in a full-time and part-time form, as well as organizing courses, competitions, trainings, lectures and workshops for primary and secondary school students and others who are interested. The main substantive task of the Center is to develop knowledge and improve skills in the field of mathematics by students of the Gdańsk University of Technology and to promote and disseminate teaching with the use of distance learning methods and techniques.
We are involved in the popularization, promotion and expansion of activities related to e-learning, blended-learning and e-technology through:
- modification and improvement of resources on eNauczanie platform which are used to conduct classes included in the study plan and program
- conducting e-Tests in basic mathematics among first-year students
- expanding research into technology-based education effectiveness issues
- creating applications in the Matlab and GeoGebra engineering computing environment, that can be used in the process of learning by both teachers and students,
- cooperating with other University Centers in creating and preparing e-courses for students and teachers of the University
Projects and Competitions
We are involved in projects like “Zdolni z Pomorza”, implemented by the Pomeranian Voivodeship in partnership with the Gdańsk University of Technology, and coordinated by
our Center. As part of the project, employees of the Center are involved
in preparing and running e-courses, lectures, and mentoring primary and secondary school gifted students. A year filled with activities finishes with a conference run by GUT
and organized by: Pedagogiczna Biblioteka Wojewódzka in Gdańsk, Gdańsk University of Technology and the Marshal's Office of the Pomeranian Voivodeship. The speakers are academic teachers and the most talented students from primary and secondary schools from the Pomeranian Voivodeship
The Center is running “Od szkolniaka do żaka” competition for primary schools students. The main goal of the competition is to select mathematical talents among students of Pomeranian primary schools and to enable them to further develop their mathematical competences.
The Center is also participating in running, in cooperation with Warsaw University of technology, the competition “General Internet Competition for Secondary School Students - Mathematics”, intended for high school students, mainly in the final exams. Its aim is to promote young, mathematically talented people from all over Poland.
Conferences
Center is also involved in the organization of e-Technologies in Engineering Education conference, which commenced in 2014, and has been coorganized by AGH University of Science and Education since its third edition. The goal of the conference is to popularize the latest technologies and good practice in engineering education.
We also participate in the organization of National Conference on Teaching Mathematics at Technical Universities, a cyclical conference organized every two years by the mathematics departments of technical universities, aimed at improving the quality of mathematics education at technical universities.
